During the MTF Council Meeting 3/2018, held this evening, the Council of the Malta Triathlon Federation unanimously voted in favour of the request of the affiliation of TriGozo - Gozo's first ever Triathlon Club. The endorsement became official after months of negotiation between the Federation and the high-ranking officials of the club, and after all the requirements set out in the Federation's Constitution were met. This means that the number of affiliated clubs now rise to 8 and represents the whole of the Maltese Islands.
In a statement shortly after the Council meeting, Federation's President, Cyprian Dalli congratulated the team behind TriGozo for their efforts to set-up, nourish and develop the club. 'It is a pleasure for the MTF to see our sport grow and gain popularity even in Gozo. Michael Bongailas and his team have worked hard to establish a team of young budding triathletes who will ensure a bright future for multisport in the Maltese Islands' stated Dalli.
The officials of TriGozo received the news of the approval of their Club with great satisfaction. In a statement, they stated that ' TriGozo takes a leap forward and is working towards promoting triathlon in Malta and Gozo, in collaboration with other clubs in Malta and the Malta Triathlon Federation. Triathlon in Gozo is on the increase and our club shall be promoting sports in general and developing in the participants a strong physical and mental foundation for other athletic endeavours and a lifetime of general fitness. TriGozo aims to introduce competitive multisport events in Gozo that create a positive experience for all athletes involved. TriGozo aims to look in perspective and find ways to cater for the needs of its athletes to train in a safe and appropriate environment and follow good practices in sport. Our commitment is to facilitate athletes in Gozo and work hard to provide them with new opportunities in Gozo, that is, enhance their knowledge through this sport and teach this discipline to young individuals; triathlon, being a new sport on the island of Gozo.'
Michael Bongailas, founder and President of the club, declared that ' We greatly appreciate the full support given from the Malta Triathlon Federation. This affiliation will lead to a better future for triathlon and to its members in Gozo.'
