The 2013 Season starts with a bang on Dingli Cliffs - Mellieha AC Duathlon Race Report

30/3/2013

It was a 'first' for more than one reason this Saturday on the wind-swept cliffs of Dingli.

It was the first multi-sport event on the island thus ushering in the 2013 Season, which promises to be the most hard-fought and exciting season in the history of Triathlon in Malta.

It was also the first ever multi-sport event organised by the newly-affiliated club of Mellieha A.C.

Overall it was a huge success topped with a very good turnout and an exciting race. The veterans of the sports racing it along the rookies was a truly impressive sight and an extra dash of excitement for partecipants, organisers and spectators alike.

The titles were clinched by Fabio Spiteri and Michelle Vella-Wood, with David Galea and Nathan Farrugia together with Hannah Pace and Danica Bonello-Spiteri completing the podiums.

This race serves as a taster and check for the Malta National Duathlon Championships which will be held on the 18 May.

Well done to Mellieha AC a very well organised event. Should be kept as part of the yearly races.

I would like to suggest all organisers of upcoming events to include the Masters/40+ category. We veterans train as hard as most of our younger colleagues and we appreciate being acknowledged for our achievements just as anyone else. I finished 10th overall in this duathlon race and being 48 years of age I believe that is a decent result. If there was a Masters category I would have placed 2nd, only behind giant David Galea. Cheers
