Triathlon Malta had an impressive showing this morning at the European Triathlon Union's Championships in Alanya, Turkey. Triathlon Malta was represented by 6 delegates, with 5 athletes participating in their relative age groups covering a distance of 1.5kswim, 40km bike and 10k run. Newcomer Hannah Pace, participating in her first ever International Race and such distance stormed to an impressive Age Group victory, clocking in 2hours 13 mins in the 20 - 25 age group category. Current Triathlon Champion Keith Galea had an impressive showing registering a personal best time on the distance, clocking 1 hour 57 mins and winning a bronze medal in the process. The rest of the team performed well, with current Duathlon Champion Fabio Spiteri finishing eight in his category within the 35 – 39 age group and registering a personal best time of 2 hours one minute. Johanna Calleja registered a personal best time in the 25 -29 age group, finisihg 5th in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes. Current Triathlon Champion Danica Bonello Spiteri, gave a solid and determined performance even overcoming some difficulties finishing in 2hours 28 mins. The Delegation was led by Federation President Cyprian Dalli who also attending the Annual General Meeting. The Malta Triathlon Federation congratulates all the members of the team. Well done TRI-MLT

Mr Mark Gaglione of Medcomms Limited, agents for Garmin in Malta, made an important donation to Malta Triathlon Federation. The donation was presented to Triathlon Malta's president, Cyp Dalli, just before the first triathlon race of the season.

A six person delegation will be representing Malta in the forthcoming European Triathlon Union Championships in Alanya, Turkey on the 14th June. The team will be consisted of current male Duathlon Champion Fabio Spiteri, current male Triathlon Champion Keith Galea, current female Triathlon Champion Danica Bonello Spiteri, Hannah Pace and Johanna Calleja. The team will be accompanied by Cyprian Dalli, President of the Malta Triathlon Federation President.
Maltese athletes will be participating in their respective age groups competing against seasoned athletes in an Olympic distance covering a 1.5k swim, 40km cycle and 10km run. Malta Triathlon Federation President and Head of Delegation Cyprian Dalli, will be also be attending the European Triathlon Union (ETU) Annual General Assembly, which will also see a new Executive Board being elected. Malta’s recent success in securing support to develop a Youth Programme will also be discussed at length in one to one meetings with Mr. Zeljko Bijuk, ETU Development Coordinator. “In line with the Federation’s strategy to continue strengthening our performance at an International level, our presence at the European Championships will provide our athletes with the necessary experience and exposure” said Cyprian Dalli, President of the Malta Triathlon Federation. “The presence of five athletes at this sporting event is a first for our Federation and we will ensure that it will not be our last”. The Maltese Triathlon team will be in action on Friday, 14 June. |
